springs need hole in housing to hook to

Submitted by |

The associated airtight remodeling housing has guides at bottom to accommodate a push type tension spring similar to a bathroom fan grill. These type springs would stay within the inside of the housing keeping the integrity of air tightness of the housing, however, to use this trim, you need to open the small indents provided at the top of the housing with the end of a screwdriver to insert the spring ends. This somewhat defeats the complete airtightness of the housing but it is a very small opening and any air loss should be minimal.

Pros:
appearance, finish, easy to install

Cons:
I wished it also came with the push up spring tension clip as an option.

From Pegasus:

As the reviewer states, this trim does come with coil springs to attach to the recessed housing. The recessed housing has holes cut in the can (they look like a 7), that are covered from the outside with tape, to attach the trim's coil springs to the housing. There are two sets of these 7 cuts for the coil springs; a lower set and an upper set. In most cases the upper set would be used.
