During a power failure, this Power Outage Detector serves as an automatic night light, detachable flashlight, and signal for other lights around the house. It plugs into an electrical outlet and lights up during a power outage. When removed from the wall socket, it continues to operate as a flashlight. When used in conjunction with our LED Power Outage Ceiling Lights or LED Power Outage Path lights, it sends a signal to turn those lights on.
Lights Turn On When There Is a Power Outage: Power Outage Flashlight automatically lights up during a power failure and sends a radio frequency signal to turn on any of the Battery Operated LED Path & Ceiling Lights in range.
I bought this flashlight as a Christmas present for my in-laws to plug in down in the basement. If the power goes out they will still be able to see. The flashlight is bright. I haven't had a power outage to test yet. I recently just purchased a whole house set of the ReadyBright lights for my niece as a house warming present. I love the concept that leaving this flashlight plugged in will signal the other ReadyBright lights and TURN THEM ON...She is a single mom of two young children and I know this will help them to relax in the event of a power outage... Thank You , ThankYou, Thank You...
Pros: Love that it is a CHARGED FLASHLIGHT... Also, the concept that it WILL SIGNAL ALL the other ReadyBright lights to turn on in the event of a power outage.
The product description above describes an auto shut-off after 30 minutes, while the Mr Beams Readybright brochure I received with the MB220 Power Outage Detector today indicates an auto-shutoff after 30 seconds (!), a rather useless time frame. Which is correct? I would like to order additional devices, but the stair/path lights must stay on longer than 30 seconds.
Phil, When there is a power outage, the lights will automatically turn on. After 30 minutes, the light will turn off to conserve battery. Please see Mr. Beams, the manufacturer, website for this same info - http://www.mrbeams.com/products/readybright-power-outage-lights.html
Question from Mike:
Does this operate as a traditional night light with sensor or is it only for power outage?
Todd, It has an expected battery life of up to 40 hours during a power outage. A red LED indicates when batteries need to be replaced.
Question from Rene:
Does the plug in portion of the flashlight swivel or does it require that the outlet receptacle have the ground in the bottom position? At the end of the day, I would like to have the flashlight shine upwards (like in your presentation), however I have an older house which it was customary to install receptacle ground in the top position. I can rotate the receptacle 180 degrees, however that would mean it would be the only receptacle in a different orientation in my house.
