Ask a Question

Question from Jeffrey R. Miles:

Does this item have a built in photo cell or a plug to attach a separate photo cell? I'm installing indoors to control outdoor lights using a hard wired photo cell.

Answer from Pegasus:

The photocell is built into the transformer.

Question from Bud:

Will this work with incandescent bulbs?

Answer from Pegasus:

Bud, This transformer is designed to work with 12-Volt incandescent light bulbs.

Question from John:

Will this work with 12 volt MR16 LED lights 9x9watts?

Answer from Pegasus:

John, Transformer compatibility with LED MR16 light bulbs can sometimes be an issue. I would suggest checking with the manufacturer of the LED light bulbs for recommended transformers. Some are best used with electronic transformers while others perform best with magnetic transformers like this one. The transformer can certainly handle the load of (9) 9W MR16 light bulbs.

Question from Tom Elwell:

It is a 300 watt max transformer? Can I safely use 12-14 20-watt outdoor non LED lights?

Answer from Pegasus:

It's a best practice to load magnetic transformers 80% of their nominal load. So in this case, 240W. So if you are to use 20W 12V bulbs, then you should not exceed 12 on the circuit.

Question from Joe Stines:

I have 6 working 12V outdoor lights on my run. Will having only 6 12V lights shorten the life expectancy with this timer/transformers?

Answer from Pegasus:

As long as you are not exceeding the maximum wattage rating of this transformer then no it will not be a problem.

Question from Kevin:

Can this transformer be dimmed?

Answer from Pegasus:

This transformer is not dimmable.
