Description
This 75-watt electronic enclosed low voltage transformer will power your 12-volt lighting systems. With an enclosed transformer, you can store all of the electrical connections in the included metal enclosure, meaning a separate junction box is not required. Electronic transformers are generally smaller, lighter, quieter, and cooler than magnetic transformers.

Question from Tom:

Can this transformer be used with 12 volt MR-16 LED bulbs?

Answer from Pegasus:

Tom, Yes, just make sure you are meeting the minimum wattage requirement of 35W.

Question from Brian:

I’m a bit concerned about the ‘minimum’ load for this and other electronic transformers. Case One: Hypothetically speaking for this specific transformer, it would be reasonably matched with two 20 Watt/12 Volt bulbs; at least until one of those bulbs expire. What then would be the consequences of having a load of only 20 watts against the specified minimum 35 watts? Will the transformer cease to provide power to the remaining transformer, at least until the failed bulb is replaced? Is there some permanent or cumulative damage (accelerated fatigue?) placed on the transformer? In other words, should I size my transformer to minimums that assume one or more failed bulbs? Case Two: I’m ignorant enough to not know if Load = Consumption – that is, given the above example of 2 each 20 watt/12 Volt bulbs, if dimming the lights to say 30% output (implied 12 Watts) again has the effect of dropping the load below the specified minimum of 35 Watts.

Answer from Pegasus:

If you are connecting 2 20W bulbs, then my recommendation would be to use a 60W transformer not a 75W. When one bulb fails, simply replace it and do not operate the transformer under the min load until you replace the bulb. Under loaded transformers can flicker and have shortened life and/or poor performance. The minimum load changes as you adjust the input voltage with a dimmer, so that is not an issue. Be sure to use an electronic low voltage dimmer.
