About our Xenon Line Voltage Under Cabinet Task Lights

Available in white or dark bronze, these xenon line voltage (120 volts) under cabinet task lights are fully dimmable. The glass diffuser ensures an even distribution of light, which makes them perfect for anything from kitchen under cabinet lighting to task lighting for a work station. This is a hardwire model.

  • 4 Models:

    8.0in long 16.0in long 24.0in long 32.0in long
    20 watts 40 watts 60 watts 80 watts
1 xenon light bulb 2 xenon light bulbs 3 xenon light bulbs 4 xenon light bulbs
  • 2 Attractive Finishes: white (WH), dark bronze (DB)
  • Steel Frame: steel frame with color-matched injection molded plastic end caps for weight efficiency and consistency of finish
  • Low Profile: thickness varies from 7/8in at the “front” of the fixture (where the glass diffuser is) to 1-7/16in at the “rear” of the fixture (where the knockouts are); only 4.75in wide
  • Even Distribution of Light: glass diffuser runs the length of the fixture and ensures that the area below is uniformly lit and does not have “hot spots” of well-lit areas separated by dark areas.
  • Glass Diffuser is Secured in Hinged Door: a clear, prismatic glass diffuser is held firmly in a hinged "door", which closes securely with a spring latch

  • Xenon Light Bulbs Are Included: 20-watt, 120-volt, G8, xenon bipin lamp(s) are supplied with fixture (G8 means that the two pins at the base of the lamp are 8mm apart.)
  • Good Amount of Light: 165 lumens/lamp (provides more light than a 15W appliance incandescent light bulb)
  • Color Rendering Index: CRI is 100 for all xenon light bulbs (100 is considered to be the best)
  • Good Lamp Life: rated life is 8,000 hours on average (In contrast, the typical halogen lamp is generally rated at about 2,000 hrs.)
  • Cooler Than Halogen: xenon light bulbs give off much less heat than comparable halogen light bulbs
  • Easy Lamp Handling: unlike a halogen light bulb the glass envelope of a xenon light bulb may be touched with bare hands (while the lamp is cool) without causing the lamp to fail prematurely

  • No Transformer Needed: since this is a line voltage fixture no transformer is needed
  • Hi/Lo/Off Switch: integral hi/lo/off switch
  • Switching: when these xenon under cabinet task lights are linked together, an individual fixture may be adjusted by the hi/lo/off fixture switch without affecting the other fixtures. Additionally, if multiple fixtures are hardwired to power, then they may be controlled by a single wall switch as long as the three position switch on each fixture is left in the “hi” or “lo” position.
  • Dimmable: the Hardwire Xenon Task Lights are fully dimmable
  • Dimmers: For a complete description of the Line Voltage Dimmers that we offer please see our Line Voltage Dimmers section.

  • Easy to Install: please refer to these Installation Instructions (PDF). Always check local electrical codes and the National Electrical Code (NEC) before installing any lighting products. It is also wise to consult with a licensed electrician in your geographical area about any electrical details that you might have questions about and to make certain that you are satisfying all of the appropriate electrical codes.
  • Captive Screws: each light fixture has captive installation screws already located in the right locations; just screw them in while they are in place. No need for keyholes on the “top” of the light fixtures and no need for any templates to locate the installation hole positions.
  • Getting Power: these Xenon Line Voltage Hardwire Task Lights may be "hardwired" using standard household wire. They are easy to install using the wire nuts that are supplied and the multiple knock-outs on the ends and the rear of the hard-wire task light. The hard-wire models can be parallel wired up to 640 watts (32 light bulbs). One standard household wire between each fixture completes the “chain”.

Specifications & Measurements

When determining how many Xenon Line Voltage Task Lights and which size you will need for under cabinet lighting you first will have to measure the space where the fixtures will be attached. To do this you should NOT measure the face of the cabinets; you should measure the "cavity" under the cabinet where the fixtures will actually be placed. We recommend that you "fill up" the cavity space with as many fixtures that can fit. For example, for a space that measures 28 inches we recommend that you use the fixture that measures 24in long, NOT the one that measures 16in. This will ensure that the countertop below will be uniformly lit.

Great light and easy to install
March 2, 2015
This light is well made with solid construction. It is easy to install and after installation it is very easy to replace the bulbs when needed.
This light is very easy to install with full-size knockouts. Comes with a 20 watt bulb but you can upgrade to 35 watts if you need more light.

We love our under cabinet lighting......the Xenon lamps replaced halogen lighting which gets way too hot. We put these on a dimmer switch. They are great.

Under Cabinet Lighting
November 18, 2012
I have searched high and low for under cabinet lighting that can be hard wired and is dimmable. The Pegasus website answered all of my questions; other sites left me unsure about the technical questions I had. I ordered 8 of these lights and they are now installed in my newly renovated kitchen. They are perfect!
It is dimmable! They are linkable, so they can be operated from a single dimmer switch on the wall.
So far, I have no complaints about the product! Be sure you confirm that your items are available and not back ordered. The Pegasus website is not designed that well - important details like whether it's backordered are posted, but you really have to look for it. I paid extra for two-day delivery, only to have a few of my products delivered. The rest came along later, but that missed detail messed up my construction schedule with the electrician.

Happy with my new lights
June 30, 2012
The quality of these lights are wonderful. None of this transformer nonsense you have to deal with some other lights. Just can't get these anywhere for this price. Do not show under my cabinets at all. Sizes fit perfectly under the cabinets and emit more than enough light for working or mood. Works great with my dimmer light switch and I love the bronze color goes well with my oak cabinets.

Xenon under counter lamp works great.
July 26, 2011
The xenon under counter lamp came a few days after I ordered it. The packaging was very good. The product was very good quality. The dual lamp switch is convenient and I was able to hook up a dimmer switch to this lamp and that works great as well.

Questions & Answers

Is it okay to install this above the kitchen stove?
By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on January 18, 2015

Beth, No - this item is for dry locations only. I would consider above a stove a wet location due to the steam from cooking.

By Jessica from Louisville, KY on November 17, 2012
How do I remove the bulb to replace it? I am afraid I am going to break or snap the cover? Do I just lift it up? Thanks for any info!
By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on November 20, 2012

Yes, you lift the front edge of the cover.

Is the glass diffuser considered "frosted" ? I read that some under cabinet lighting may cause a reflection off a dark or glossy counter top and to choose fixtures with a frosted lens to help minimize glare. Thanks!
By Tim from Atlanta, GA on July 23, 2013

The diffuser has a small dimple pattern scattered across the surface. The surface is a translucent material (not sure it's glass or synthetic). It is not frosted in the traditional sense but the diffuser is also not clear or completely transparent so the light will be refracted through the lens. Mine are installed over a light granite and do not show glare or reflect off of the stone.
By Kimbo from Spokane WA on July 23, 2013

Yes, the glass diffuser is frosted.
By Bob M. from Southern Calif on July 23, 2013

Yes, the glass is frosted. American UC lights with Xenon bulb and frosted glass are the best. I am a retired contractor and have used these lights on many kitchen jobs and my own house(s). The frosted glass diffuser lens does just the right job. If you want the sweet touch for your UC lights, go for it. (Nobody paid me to write this review)

What is the difference between this light compared to LED lights?

By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on December 14, 2014

Xenon lights are a type of incandescent source.

LED lights have Light Emitting Diodes.

LEDs tend to have a long rated life and use fewer watts than xenon.

However, some prefer the quality of light of xenon compared to LED. It tends to more accurately display colors, for example.

Xenon lights dim more smoothly compared to LED.

These are a few of the differences.
By Noel from SC on December 14, 2014

The Xenon lights are softer while the LED lights are brighter. Either one is good if you have all the same type. Mixing will produce uneven lighting. Xenon lights have replaceable bulbs. I installed an LED as a replacement for a Xenon. I had to take it out and install a Xenon to match the rest of my lights. I have had no problems with this product.
By Cotton from St. Peters, MO on December 14, 2014

LED is double the cost, isn't quite as hot as the Xenon, and uses a fraction of the energy. Both of the lighting quality is the same - very bright clear light. I use mine all the time and I install these Xenon a lot on my jobs.

Can this be mounted with the light facing up for an over cabinet installation, or can it only be mounted down?
By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on March 3, 2015

No - This product should only be mounted with the light directing downward. It should not be used in over cabinet lighting applications.
