Testing for Color Temperature
March 12, 2013
I have purchased 6 SoLux bulbs to test: 2 ( 3500k ) 2 ( 4100k ) & 2 ( 4700k) for photographic set-ups.
Three of these bulbs were purchased directly from the SoLux web site.
My tests seem to confirm other independent tests I have found on the Internet, in 5 of the 6 bulbs. These SoLux bulbs generally produced color temperatures 30% lower than the rated Kelvin values in my test set-up. The one exception was a 4100k bulb which produced color temperatures about 500k lower than the 2 (3500k) SoLux bulbs.
These are not bad halogen bulbs, they just did not match the advertised kelvin ratings in my testing.
Pros:
Visually, a beautiful bulb to look at.
Cons:
My test data did not match the marketing claims.
