  • Finish: white enamel
  • Solid Construction: fixture frame is constructed of extruded aluminum unlike some T5 fluorescent units that are made of plastic
  • Full Fixture Lighting: the end of the T5 lamp is only 0.50in from the end of the fixture unlike some T5 units like this that often have a full 1.50 inches between the end of the lamp and the end of the fixture
  • Very Low Profile: only 13/16in wide by 1.75in high
  • Very Little Heat: gives off very little heat
  • Light Weight: very light weight; depending on size the T5 fixture weighs 7 oz, 9 oz, 12 oz, 19 oz, 25 oz, 36 oz
  • Protective Cover: includes a clear, ribbed, attractive, easy-to-clean acrylic cover that protects the fluorescent lamp
  • Complete Unit: A Microfluorescent T5 Grounded Light Fixture includes a T5 fluorescent lamp, acrylic cover, a small on/off rocker switch located on the body of each fixture (except the 6-watt and 8-watt models), a 6ft power cord & a three-prong grounded plug, one Direct Connector, and mounting clips & screws.

LIGHT BULB

  • Light Bulb Included: a T5 (5/8in diameter) tri-phosphorous fluorescent light bulb with a color temperature of 3000K (warm white), 4100K (cool white), or 6400K (daylight white) is included with each Microfluorescent T5 Grounded Light Fixture
  • Very Good Lamp Life: rated life is 18,000 hours on average (Lamp is easily replaced.)
(Caution: always be certain that the lamp is seated properly in both of its sockets. Be sure that both pins of each end are inside their respective socket and that the lamp is rotated 90 degrees once the pins are in the sockets. Failure to make good electrical contact between the pins and its socket may result in arcing and excessive heating of the socket.)
  • Good Color Rendition: high Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 82+ for all 3 white lamps (warm white, cool white, daylight white)
  • 6 Nominal Lengths: the T5 light bulbs have nominal lengths of 9in, 12in, 22in, 34in, 46in, and 58in regardless of the color temperature or the color of the lamp
  • End of Lamp Life: when a fluorescent light bulb burns out it is always a good idea to turn off the corresponding Microfluorescent fixture. Otherwise, the solid state ballast used inside that fixture can sometimes burn out while trying to start a bad light bulb.

ELECTRICAL FEATURES

  • Quiet Electronic Ballast: built-in lightweight electronic ballast provides instant-on starting with no flickering and cool quiet operation
  • Energy-Efficient: uses only 6, 8, 14, 21, 28, 35 watts of power/fixture respectively
  • Linkable: can be installed as a single unit or as multiple units connected in line with Direct Connectors and/or Flexible Connectors of 6in, 12in, 24in, or 36in. If the distance between two Microfluorescent T5 Grounded Fixtures is greater than 36 inches, then use two or more Flexible Connectors. For example, if the distance between two Microfluorescent T5 Grounded Fixtures is 65 inches, use two 36in Flexible Connectors connected end-to-end.
  • Maximum Wattage: in general, the maximum wattage in one “ganged” line of T5 fixtures is 230 watts. However, if the 28W, or the 35W fixtures are linked together in a single circuit, only 5 of these fixtures may be “ganged” together.
  • Rocker Switch Pre-Installed: all of the fixtures (except the 6W and 8W fixtures) come equipped with a small on/off rocker switch on the side of the fixture
  • Switching: when these microfluorescent fixtures are linked together, an individual fixture may be adjusted by the on/off fixture switch without affecting the other fixtures. Additionally, if multiple fixtures are hardwired to power, then they may be controlled by a single wall switch as long as the rocker switch on each fixture is left in the “on” position.
  • 3-Wire Grounded: 3-wire grounded fixtures like these Microfluorescent T5 Grounded Light Fixtures are strongly recommended for projects that require grounding - especially commercial installations; on the other hand, 2-wire non-grounded microfluorescent fixtures can be used for residential installations
  • Not Dimmable: these fluorescent fixtures are not dimmable

INSTALLATION

  • Easy to Install: easy to install with 2 screw-in clips, then fixture snaps into place
  • Electrical Connections: can easily be connected to power by either using a 6ft power cord or a choice of two different Hardwire Boxes. However, these Microfluorescent T5 Grounded Light Fixtures cannot be hardwired directly because their profile is simply too small (0.75in by 1.5in).
  • Acrylic Hardwire Box with Control Switch: will permit the Microfluorescent T5 Grounded Light Fixture(s) to be hardwired and controlled by the rocker switch on the hardwire box. It has 3 knockouts for electrical connections. (Please remember that a flexible connector of the appropriate length must be used to connect the hardwire box and Microfluorescent T5 Grounded Light Fixture.)
  • Commercial Grade Metal Hardwire Box: will permit the Microfluorescent T5 Grounded Light Fixture(s) to be hardwired into a circuit controlled by a wall switch. It has 4 knockouts for electrical connections. (Please remember that a Flexible Connector of the appropriate length must be used to connect the hardwire box and a Microfluorescent T5 Grounded Light Fixture.)
  • Optional Accessories: a variety of connectors (Direct Connectors, Flexible Connectors, a Power Cord, Hardwire Boxes, Mounting Clips, and spare T5 light bulbs) may be ordered separately.

Specifications & Measurements

When determining how many Microfluorescent T5 Grounded Light Fixtures and which size you will need for lighting your situation you will first have to measure the space where the fixtures will be attached. We recommend that you "fill up" the space with the largest fixture that can fit. For example, for a space that measures 28 inches we recommend that you use the 14-watt fixture that measures 24.5in long, not the 8-watt fixture that measures 14.5in.

Not for jewelry cases
February 8, 2014
I ordered this in hopes it would be a good answer to lighting horizontal jewelry cases. The light is too dim and I don't think fluorescents are an option in this kind of situation. Don't even waste your time trying.

Nice metal construction; often takes 1 second to start; slightest hum
April 8, 2013
I purchased this fixture to replace an old one (T12) in my bedroom closet. I like the metal frame. The light is nice and bright. I was surprised that it often takes about a second to turn on. I definitely expected better. It has a very slight hum that is nearly imperceptible. Most humans won't notice it at all. I'm very sensitive to everything. I wouldn't want it next to my bed but it's absolutely fabulous in the closet.
Pros:
I like the metal frame.
Cons:
I was surprised that it often takes about a second to turn on; I definitely expected better.

Terrific Craft Light
May 26, 2012
Purchased the 35 watt T5 Grounded Light Fixture with Daylight bulbs. My wife loves it for her gemstone crafting activities; bright light, and hassle free installation. Excellent packaging on fixture and bulbs - couldn't believe how well the items were packed. Just excellent. And I am a repeat customer.
Cons:
wish there was a way to switch the power cord to the end away from the switch end.

Nice, compact light
May 4, 2012
Purchased a few of these as "test lights" for basement lighting. I like the extremely small size while still being very bright. Of course, that combination can create an oddly strong light source that catches the eye... but that's just the nature of a small yet bright combination.
Pros:
Super small size. Cord made it easy to plug in and test mounting locations and spacing before committing.

Questions & Answers
By Cindy from New Jersey on November 9, 2012
We want to mount these under the cabinet on the front edge of the cabinet with the rocker switch facing down to be accessed. In this position, from which direction would the power cord enter when looking at the front of the cabinet? We need to know which side of the cabinet to run the electric in from!

If there is a photo showing the whole unit with the rocker switch and the power cord on it, that would answer my question too!
By Thomas from Santa Fe, NM on November 12, 2012

Answer:
It shouldn't matter which side to access the power cord from. The lights have a top and a bottom but either side can serve as a front or back. As you switch sides you obviously move the rocker switch from left to right both of which sides are equally functional all other things being equal.

By Rich from Burke, VA on November 14, 2012

Answer:
The rocker switch would be on the left side and the incoming power would be on the left side.

Is this fixture dimmable? If not, do you have one that is?
By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on December 13, 2012

Answer:
Judith,

Most fluorescent light fixtures, including this one, are not dimmable.

Here's a link to similar products that are dimmable.

Can I attach 2 different sizes together, for example the 8 watt with the 21 watt fixtures?
By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on October 23, 2012

Answer:
Yes, the fixtures can link together using flexible connectors or direct connectors.
By Barry from Somerset, NJ on October 23, 2012

Answer:
Yes you could. Bare in mind that you may prefer a more even light whereas one section is not "hotter" (brighter) than another section. There are applications were this may be required but give it some thought before ordering.
By David from Foster City, CA on October 23, 2012

Answer:
I see no reason why not as long as you don't overload your circuit.
By Jason from South Milwaukee, WI on October 23, 2012

Answer:
You sure can. I've done it several times.
By Rich from Burke, VA on October 23, 2012

Answer:
No problem doing that. I mixed 3 different fixtures based on the different length cabinets they were on.
By John from Pierre, SD on October 24, 2012

Answer:
Should not be a problem as each fixture is separately ballasted and independent of the other.
