Troubleshooting Questions for the LED Remote Controlled Spotlight
- Can I keep the spotlight on continuously?
- The photocell ensures that the spotlight is activated only in darkness and this feature cannot be overridden.
- Why does my spotlight have a loose wire?
- You may find what appears to be a “loose wire” inside the spotlight. This is the antenna that is needed for the remote control function. It is perfectly normal that it is “loose”. Do not try to remove it or connect it to anything.
- Why is my spotlight not turning on when it is dark?
- Make sure the batteries are the correct size and type per the instruction manual. Do not mix old and new batteries; use only fresh batteries.
- Also, make sure the batteries are installed correctly with the polarities in the correct position.
- Can I test the spotlight's photocell?
- You can test the spotlight in a completely dark room (e.g., a closet or bathroom) with motion. Make sure the area is safe and free of obstruction prior to testing. Then wave your hand in front of the spotlight to trigger it. Test it more than once.
- If the spotlight itself is defective, you should know that at this point. The motion sensor should work regardless of the remote control’s functionality. If it is determined that the motion sensor works, please proceed.
- Why is my remote control not operating the spotlight?
- Make sure the batteries in the remote are installed correctly. The “textured side” of the battery should be facing down and the smooth side should be facing up. Both batteries need to be installed this way – one on top of the other.
- Test the remote by pushing the “on” button. When this is done, the red light on the remote should come on. This signals that the batteries are installed correctly and the remote is functioning.
- The batteries in my remote control are installed correctly, why is it not operating the spotlight?
- Make sure the slider bar codes on the inside of the remote control and the spotlight are exactly the same. Both units should arrive with the codes the same and should not be changed unless you are using multiple spotlights and need to change the codes so that certain spotlight codes match certain remote codes. Once you have checked that the codes on the inside of the remote and the spotlight are the same, test the unit in complete darkness again.
- The remote has an approximate range of 75 feet. If you are using the remote through glass or other materials, please note that the activation range will be reduced.
- Why am I still having a problem with the spotlight?
- After going through all of the previous steps, if the spotlight is still not functioning properly, it may be deemed that the unit is defective and needs to be replaced.
By Matt from Florida on February 26, 2013 If you covered the motion detector permanently, would I be able to remote operate it only? I would like to be able to turn it on and off when needed. By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on February 26, 2013Answer:Matt, using the remove you can turn it on/off as needed without having to disable the motion sensor.
Covering it might reduce it's sensitivity but I cannot assure you that it will not trigger the fixture.By George from Towson, Maryland on March 4, 2013 In your answer to one of the other questions, you seem to indicate that it is possible to operate this lamp exclusively by the remote control. I would be mounting the light about twenty feet from my back alley and do not want it activated by anyone else driving or walking past my driveway. Can the motion sensor feature be completely bypassed at all times? By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on March 4, 2013Answer:I'm sorry - no, the motion sensor cannot be bypassed.By Reed from St. Louis, MO on December 2, 2012 Can this be used to light my flag at night? Will it stay on from dusk to dawn without having to detect motion? Will one be enough to light the flag approx 7ft away? By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on December 3, 2012Answer:Reed,
This spotlight operates when it detects motion when it is dark out.
In short, it will not stay on all night.
By Karen from Atlanta, Georgia on October 5, 2012 Can more than one light be operated with a single remote? By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on October 12, 2012Answer:Yes, more than one spotlight can be controlled by one remote. Each light has a "code" you can set. If the codes are the same, the remote will function for both.By Trevor from New Jersey on October 8, 2012Answer:I believe so. I returned mine because I needed something a little bigger so I am not 100% sure. But it should not matter for you because each light came with a remote & batteries. By Hannah from Prescott, Arizona on October 8, 2012Answer:Yes, as long as the code is set for the same numbers on each light. If they are far apart, they may still all light, but if not get closer to the one that did not light and do it again. Same with the off. I saved the extra remote in case of problems. |

Reliable and performs well
June 8, 2013
We needed a small spotlight to illuminate a kinetic sculpture in the garden after dark, but didn't want it to be illuminated continuously. I successfully disabled the motion detector on the product so it now goes on/off only when the remote is used to control it. However, the timing device cannot be disabled, so the light can be on for a maximum of 10 minutes at a time before the remote "on" button needs to pushed again. Deactivating the motion sensor involves disassembly of the product and voids the manufacturer's warranty; it takes about 15 minutes.
Pros:Provides excellent lighting at a low cost
Reliable
Cons:For this application, it would be ideal if the duration of "on" could be extended beyond 10 minutes

Not worth the $$ for quality
May 5, 2013
One constantly stays on, draining D size batteries. The other one blinks on & off. Neither remote lasts any length of time. Sorry...not impressed at all.

Battery operated
January 10, 2013
I purchased this for an evening event. When placed in the ground with stakes the spotlight was limited to a 10 foot range even with 3 lights. This was barely sufficient for the purpose needed. Being elevated provided the best coverage.
I would recommend this spotlight - whether in a pathway for lighting or elevated for extended lighting coverage.
If an extended pole could be provided with a ground stake (and being secured) it may be a better option for outdoor evening event usage (sort of like a tiki torch pole).

LED Remote Controlled Spotlight
December 29, 2012
This is the second of these lights that I own. Just love this product! They give a very bright light and having the remote makes it even better. When you have dogs going in and out you can turn them off manually. This one is used to make an area by the steps bright so my older dogs can see better at night.
Pros:Everything
Cons:Nothing

Safety Boon
December 29, 2012
The last step on our front porch was hard to see at night. This has been a great safety feature.
Pros:It solved the problem efficiently and inexpensively. Love that it is battery operated.
Cons:Couldn't figure out how to use the stake, so I screwed it into the newel post.

Just what I wanted
September 10, 2012
I wanted one that worked with the remote control only, and no motion sensor, as the critters in my area would turn it on. They told me how to disconnect the motion sensor, so now it comes on just when I use the remote.

Perfect for sidewalks
December 22, 2010
I purchased this light for a sidewalk that leads up to the back door of my house. I used to have several solar-powered walkway lights but needed to replace them. This one spotlight was bright enough to illuminate the entire sidewalk and the deck stairs! It's not a harsh light, either.
Pros:Easy to set up and place
No need for a cord
Motion activation is instant
