Deer Eating Your Azaleas?
October 23, 2014
The web (and Lowes) is full of nostrums to drive away deer, but this little light is another way. For years I have tried Irish Spring Deer Off, homemade egg, milk and jalapeno recipes to keep deer from eating my azaleas and Indian Hawthorne, the latter must be like Weed to them since they cannot resist them. I had forgotten what their flowers look like until recently. Following up on some suggestions that surprises like noise, loud music, sprinklers, etc. work at least a little while, I tried putting a couple of the little battery powered (read: no extension cord) into some Indian Hawthorne. Bingo, the deer do not come close. I think the flash of intense light in their eyes is blinding at night and since they rely on eyesight as well as scent to avoid predators, plus the flash is sort of random when it kicks on, runs them away. Indian Hawthorn looks better than ever before and even had some blooms on them. Bought about 8 of these little guys and have them around the foundation planting. No problem with rain or weather either. Worth a try, if you have deer vandals.

Battery powered stair light
August 10, 2013
I purchased this 6 months ago to put in a stairway inside my house. It is wonderful and really illuminates the stairwell. I am going to purchase 2 more for the stairs outside on my deck.

I purchased this motion light for the stairway on the house. Prior to installation, I took it to the boat and put it on the companion way steps. Rave reviews after using it this weekend. It allows for entry into a previously dark boat. Now I need 2.
Motion activated. Short duration on.
C batteries. Duration unknown.

No screws, anchors or double side tape

The product is fine. I was disappointed that no installation items were included, required a trip to hardware store. Went on-line for installation instructions; instruction sheet in box was too difficult to understand.
Product performs as advertised.
No installation materials, poor instructions.

Great product
May 25, 2015
I put four of these in my spiral staircase. They work great! Each light comes on as my kids work their way around the staircase. They make a dark room easily accessible during the night time hours making it much safer. I am very happy with this purchase.
The lights come on and allow ample time to navigate the stairs before they turn off.
After a month I have no cons yet. So far the original batteries are still working strong.

Good light, good quality, easy installation

These are good lights for our dark stairwell. We may buy more since we're so pleased with them. My only complaint is it took almost 2 weeks to receive our order. Otherwise, very happy with our purchase.

They are so neat. I use three outside the bedroom. When I take my dog outside in the middle of the night, if she has to go, the lights light up my pathway. I also use one in the bedroom which is great when I enter a dark room at night and don't want to turn on the light and wake up my husband. I also use one in the dining room which I walk pass to go to the laundry room. It lights up my pathway so I don't need to turn on any light switches. They really work awesome.

Motion activated light
August 6, 2014
I purchased this light to use for my steps. It's just what I needed! It lights the steps but isn't too bright and it's battery operated so it can be placed anywhere.

Does the photocell remain on throughout darkness or can it be disable?
By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on November 8, 2012

When it is dark out, the step light emits a low glow of light.

When motion is detected, the step light increases in brightness for a set period of time.

The photocell cannot be disabled.
By Lou from Beaver, PA on January 7, 2013

I have tried SEVERAL motion Step Lights... This one Is ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. The Batteries Last a Long time so even though It remains at Soft Glow It must Not affect the Batteries Much.
By Sandra from NC on August 6, 2014

There are 2 small switches inside the battery compartment. One for the length of time the light stays on and one to turn the glow on or off. I set the glow on my step light to "off" so that the only time it comes on is when it's motion activated. So yes, it can be disabled.

How high above the steps can they be placed? The top of railing is 35 inches: the light will be placed under the railing edge with ample room for its size length wise and 3 inches to support the base.
By Jerry from Hickory, NC on October 22, 2014

36" should be fine - these are good lights but keep in mind that the closer you have them to the steps the brighter they will be - I would say 36" would be the max.
By Walt from Yachats, OR on October 22, 2014

I have two lights. One is positioned on the side of a post six inches above the top step. The second is about 30 inches above the bottom step.
Both see movement through a wide arc, and provide ample light.
They have survived a hostile coastal climate since March.
By George from Leominster, MA on October 22, 2014

18 inches.
By David from MN on October 22, 2014

That height shouldn't be a problem- the light is bright. I mounted mine on the wall over the stairs. It's 82" from the floor. Great light!
By Robert from Blue Springs, MS on October 23, 2014

My lights are about 24" off the floor. They have a very dim light that stays on continuously if you choose (night time only). I guess that is for general orientation. The height you are suggesting should work fine. Mine pick up movement up to twenty feet away and are very bright. So I would say if it's under 35" you will be pleased.
By Louis from Warren, CT on October 23, 2014

I use the Step Light as an alert for our cat at night. I placed it above the front door which is about 7 feet high. When the cat is at the door, the 'step light' lights up the whole area of the entry way which we can see from our bedroom. Test it at different heights, because its is more than a 'step light'.

How far out will this light spread light on my outside steps?
By Debbie from San Diego, California on February 6, 2013

I would say the range is AT LEAST 5 foot in radius. My parents moved in with us and we have a lot of stairs from the second story to the landing and then to the first floor of our home and these are GREAT at making sure they can see at night and don't fall.
By Vonnie from Beaver, PA on February 7, 2013

We Installed the "Step Light" on the Railing Halfway down on our Deck. It Lights ALL THREE STEPS and a good Distance both directions, Up on the Deck and Also part of the Sidewalk Leading up to the Steps in the opposite direction. My husband said approximately 4 Feet Each direction. (8 Feet Total) Lights Entire Step Long ways they are standard 3 Feet, then meets the house so not sure how much further that direction it would shine..The Motion Sensor Works GREAT.. A little Tip though, Use NEW ALKALINE BATTERIES. when we tried it in the house the day we got it USING USED Batteries the motion sensor had light blinking continuously we thought it was broke.. but after purchasing New batteries, WORKS EXCELLENT... Best one we've come across. Hope this Helps.
By Chris from Elizabeth City, NC on February 7, 2013

It has a fairly wide and bright beam, radiating over 90 degrees and well over 6-8 feet, depending on your ambient light. I use it inside on a staircase, and the sensor activates about 4-6 feet away. Very useful to protect a sleepy kid (or parent) heading for the lavatory in the middle of the night.
By Dennis from Rockford, IL on February 7, 2013

My stairway is about five feet wide and the lights cover them without any problem. I am not sure the distance that the light will reach. I spread the lights perpendicular about 12 feet apart going up the stairs and the light appears to be okay. I just ordered another light for the landing at the top of my stairs. My friend in FL liked them so much He ordered lights for his stair way.

Can you turn on this light and leave it on and is there an on/off button or is it strictly used as a motion light?
By Jacob from Pegasus Lighting on August 5, 2014

It cannot be turned on and left on. It does not have an on/off switch.

It turns on automatically to a "low glow mode" when it is dark out.

Then, when motion is detected it will increase in brightness.

After a set amount of time it will then decrease back to the low glow light level.

When it is bright out, the light will automatically turn off to conserve battery life.
By Roy from Atlanta, Ga on August 5, 2014

When you open the light to install the batteries, you'll find two small switches. One controls the amount of time that you want the light to stay on after motion activation. If I'm not mistaken, the alternatives are 20 and 60 seconds. The other is an "On/Off" switch. If left "On," then it comes on when it turns dark. If left "Off," it simply acts as a motion sensing light. There are no control buttons or switches on the outside of the light.

We have four of these lights, one at the top and bottom of two long and steep flights of stairs. They are tremendously helpful, but the sensitivity to motion varies from light to light.
By William from Marilla, NY on August 5, 2014

It is strictly used as a motion light. There are 2 settings to choose from when you initially set it up, 20 seconds of light or 90 seconds of light. I set mine to 20 seconds to save batteries. If I recall, they take two "C" size batteries. I placed two of them in my basement stairwell as I had no lighting there, and they work great. Since they will only come on when it's dark enough, you can't put them too close together otherwise when one comes on it will product enough light that the other one won't kick on. I love these lights!
By Sandra from NC on August 5, 2014

It is a motion light but it does have a "glow" feature that can be left on - I guess like a nightlight.
By Mary from Lafayette, LA on August 5, 2014

Yes, you can leave it on. Under the batteries is a tiny button that says 'glow' that you switch to on and it will stay on. Another tiny button says 'max' and 'min' depending how long you want your motion light to stay on. I use 'max'. We have a dangerous step in our garage. This light is worth it's weight in gold.
