Simple solution
July 19, 2012
I had a stack of GU24 bulbs that I replaced with dimmable ones, so I bought these to convert basement light fixtures. It helped me use the bulbs I already had & saved me having to buy twist in bulbs. It seems that GU24 are going to be the way to go for CFLs now.
Pros:
Great cost effective way to use my extra GU24s.
Cons:
These are a permanent solution, so I had to make sure GU24 bulbs were sticking around.

Questions & Answers

Once installed in a fixture can it be removed?
By Robert from San Leandro, CA on September 2, 2014

Answer:
No it locks in.
By Aidan from San Francisco, CA on September 4, 2014

Answer:
No, once solidly screwed in, it cannot be removed. It has a little metal "blade" protruding from a hole in the side of the threaded part that prevents removal unless you are intent on destroying your fixture in the process. This is actually a feature in some scenarios, like a landlord not wanting tenants to undo their energy-saving conversion efforts, Specifically in California, where Title 24 requires high-efficiency sockets (i.e. not sockets that make sense and can do double duty with various types of bulbs), most building inspectors will let you slide by irreversibly converting a standard socket to the GU-24 socket that ensures incandescent will not be used in new homes or renovations. There just are not many Title 24-compliant options to choose from, so widening the field but converting standard fixtures yourself allows more choice for new homeowners to still use CFL or LED bulbs.
