Energy-Efficient Halogen Light Bulbs

Shop our expanding selection of energy-efficient halogen light bulbs for replacing standard incandescent and halogen lamps. These light bulbs are designed to meet efficiency standards while preserving the smooth dimming, color rendering, and low cost that traditional incandescent and halogen lamps offer. Many energy-efficient halogen have a thin infrared-reflective coating for boosting performance. Others use advanced filament design and improved fill gas to meet efficiency standards.

The Uber-Halogen
The Halogen energy-efficient light bulb is to a regular halogen lamp what Clark Kent is to your average Joe. You can use these lamps anywhere you use traditional halogens or incandescents, but you’ll realize their super abilities when you look at your energy bill. The energy-efficient halogen has all the same advantages of a regular halogen - dimmable, easily focused, crisp color rendering - but it lasts longer, uses less energy, and generates less heat.
How it Works
Lamp manufacturers have figured out clever ways to transform standard halogen technology into more efficient light bulbs that are designed to meet EISA standards.
Most filament-based bulbs like incandescents and halogens can only generate visible light with about 10% of the energy they use - that means 90% of the energy consumed by these light bulbs is lost as infrared energy (aka heat).
Some energy-efficient halogens, however, have clever ways of negating this energy loss: recycling! A thin dichroic infrared (IR) reflective coating, when applied to the inner glass envelope of the lamp, will redirect heat energy back to the tungsten filament. This infrared coating is why energy-efficient halogens are sometimes called infrared halogen (HIR). HIRs require less energy to keep the filament hot and producing light. IR technology is most commonly used in PAR-shaped energy-efficient halogen light bulbs.
Not all energy-efficient halogen use IR technology to boost performance. Some such as our A-shape halogen use an advanced filament design and improved fill gas inside of the bulb.
Why Energy-Efficient Halogen?
By channeling otherwise wasted heat energy, energy-efficient halogen lights are up to 33% more efficient than regular halogen bulbs. That means that to produce the same amount of light as a 90 watt halogen bulb, it would only need 60 watts! They also last up to 40% longer than standard halogens, and produce much less heat, which may even help lower your A/C bills in the warmer months!
Cost
You may ask yourself - is the extra cost of upgrading to energy-efficient halogen worth it? We think so. With the extended rated life and enhanced efficiency, this lamp will eventually pay for itself. The savings you earn from using them won’t be as dramatic as an LED or CFL, but they’re sometimes the best choice when more popular energy-saving light bulbs aren’t an option.
Uses
Energy-Efficient Halogen light bulbs are a marvelous substitute for incandescent or standard halogen bulbs if you want to amp up your energy savings. However, for many common uses, LEDs and CFLs are more efficient. Energy-efficient halogen can help you get the most brightness for your buck in the following ways:
  • With dimmers, timers, and photo sensors: LEDs and CFLs don’t normally work as well with lighting controls, so energy-efficient halogens are one of the most efficient choices. You can use them in recessed lighting, track lighting, floor lamps, table lamps, and desk lamps.
  • Lighting artwork and displays: Though energy-efficient halogen lamps do some pretty crazy stuff to save energy, none of it compromises quality. Halogen has a perfect CRI of 100, so when nothing but that pure white halogen light will do, you don’t have to look any further.
  • Outdoor Lighting: Fluorescent technology is temperamental in extreme temperatures but halogen delivers solid performance outdoors. Our selection of lamps offers great choices for outdoor and landscape lighting. You can choose between weather resistant spot and flood lights. The 100 watt Halogen IR produces a colossal 2030 lumens - perfect for lighting even the darkest areas!
