Description of our 60-Watt 12-Volt Plug-In Electronic Low Voltage Transformer, Remote Mount

This 60-watt low voltage electronic plug-in transformer will power your 12-volt halogen or xenon lighting systems and can be conveniently stored away from the power receptacle and the installation. Electronic transformers are generally smaller, lighter, quieter, and cooler than magnetic transformers.

  • Uses: used to power 12-volt halogen or 12-volt xenon lighting systems [Caution: Not recommended for low voltage cable lighting systems that use cables suspended between remotes to support and power decorative low voltage light fixtures hanging from the cables.]
  • Remote Mount: includes mounting accessories for remote mount installation. The transformer can be stored a short distance from the installation and the power receptacle, adding flexibility to where you would like to store the transformer.
  • 8-Foot Power Cord: 8-foot power cord with inline rotary switch
  • Maximum 60 Watts of Load: 60 watts maximum of lighting load. Unlike most magnetic transformers, these electronic transformers can be used to power the maximum wattage. [Caution: Always attach the load to the transformer before connecting the transformer to power.]
  • Minimum 20 Watts of Load: unless this transformer is powering at least 20 watts of lighting load it will not work properly
  • Input: 120 volts AC, 50/60 Hz, 0.5 amps
  • Output: 11.5 volts AC, 5.0 amps [Caution: a standard AC voltmeter cannot measure the output of a high frequency electronic transformer; instead, a special "true RMS" voltmeter must be used.]
  • Output Leads: 24-inch 18 AWG lead with connector block
  • Compact Size: only 1-3/16in(H) x 1.75in(W) x 4in(L)
  • Dimmable: dimmable on the input side only (120V side) using a dimmer designed for an electronic low voltage transformer. [Caution: This plug-in electronic transformer is dimmable if its cord & plug set is plugged into one of the two sockets of a dual wall receptacle, for which only that socket is controlled by a dimmer switch. This will leave the other socket available with full power for other electrical appliances like toasters, mixers, TVs, and electric knives.]
  • Thermal Protection: yes with auto-reset
  • Color: black
  • UL Listed: UL Listed in USA and Canada
  • 2-Year Warranty: this electronic low voltage transformer carries a 2-year warranty

Compact, robust and easy to install
June 7, 2013
I got this transformer to power a couple of 20W halogen bulbs in the hood of an outside grill. It's small and mounts to the wall with a single screw so was easy to install. It has an in-line switch on the line power cord so it can be turned off when not in use (a good idea for switch mode power supplies like this if you live in an area with a lot of thunderstorms!). I directly wired the unit to the grill 12v line ... and nothing. Subsequently found a short (due to poor manufacturing of the Kitchenaid grill!), but the transformer survived just fine, so I know that the short circuit protection works well! Now works just fine.
Pros:
- Easy & flexible installation; quite long input and output cables - Electrically robust
Cons:
- None thus far

Easy to install. I added puck lights to my hutch and this allowed me to use a plug-in electric source.

Compact, effective
December 7, 2011
Needed to replace a bulky 12V AC wall-wart with an in-line transformer due to space constraints and this fit the bill perfectly. It's happy driving a 20W load despite this being the absolute lower minimum load specified.
Pros:
Compact, quiet, came with cable clips and bonus hardware.

Good product

I had to replace an existing transformer that was purchased through Ikea. Other than having to splice the wiring into the existing fixture, everything worked just fine. Shipping was a little costly in that it equaled the cost of the item.
