Screw-in cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) are similar to compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) except that their cathodes operate at lower temperatures.
Dimmability
Unlike traditional CFLs, screw-in CCFLs have the ability to dim down to as low as about 5% of their full light output.
Popular uses include movie theaters, restaurants, casinos, hotels, motels, and other locations where lights are often dimmed.
Energy Savings
CCFLs offer up to 85% energy savings over comparable incandescent light bulbs.
Rated Life
Rated life ranges from 18,000 to 25,000 hours, which is about 20 times as long as comparable incandescent light bulbs and about 2-3 times as long as comparable CFLs.
Light bulbs with long lives significantly reduce replacement and maintenance costs.
Appearance
The diameter of the glass envelope is generally more slender than a compact fluorescent lamp’s diameter.
The outer glass envelope is either clear or frosted.
Wattage
The wattage can vary between 2 watts and 15 watts. These light bulbs are comparable in light output to incandescent light bulbs that range from 11 to 60 watts.
Depending on the specific CCFL in question it can be used in recessed downlights, track lighting, chandeliers, signs, perimeter lighting, accent lighting, message centers, table lamps, cove lighting, floor lamps, and wall sconces. They also may be used indoors and outdoors.
Flashable
Due to the rugged construction of their cathodes, some CCFLs can be flashed on and off with great frequency (in a flashing sign, for example) and still maintain a long rated life.

Lock Out Base
Some of our CCFLs have a unique “lock out base” which prevents technology “snap-back”. Snap-back is the term used to describe a situation when a long-lasting, energy-efficient lighting product is replaced by its short-lived, inefficient incandescent “cousin” when the former finally burns out. To prevent snap-back many of our CCFLs come with a special lock out disc that prevents someone from using an inefficient lighting technology, like an incandescent light bulb, in the same socket.
