TECHNOLOGY
- Technological Innovations: The LR6 is an amazing combination of technical innovations, including breakthroughs in optical design, electronics design, mechanical design, and thermal management. The core of the innovation is a new way to generate white light with LEDs.
- A Better Way to Generate White Light: The technology is elegantly simple, yet incredibly effective. It delivers high efficacy light with beautiful, warm color characteristics by mixing the light from yellow and red LEDs. This approach enables active color management that maintains tight color consistency over the life of the product.
- Effective Thermal Management: Ensuring the long life of an LED product depends on effectively controlling the operating temperature of the LEDs. The LR6 was designed to utilize all components to effectively transfer heat and keep the maximum LED temperature at or below acceptable levels— even its worst-case environment.

FAQs About the 6-Inch LED Retrofit Modules for Recessed Lights, 650 Lumens, 10.5W
- Q) Why should I buy the LR6 instead of an incandescent recessed downlight?
- A) The LR6 is a much more efficient, comfortable, and "green" solution. It uses 85% less energy than a conventional incandescent, generates no infrared heat and lasts more than 20 times longer than an incandescent light bulb. The LR6 provides efficiency without compromise.
- Q) Why should I buy the LR6 instead of a CFL (compact fluorescent lamp)?
- A) The LR6 lasts 5 times longer than a CFL. It contains no toxic mercury and provides substantially improved color rendering over a fluorescent light bulb. It is more efficient than a CFL, but looks and performs like an incandescent light bulb.
- Q) What is the difference between the LR6 and the LR6C?
- A) The LR6 delivers light at a color temperature of 2700K. This means that it has a “warm” appearance similar to most incandescent light bulbs. The 3500K (LR6C) has a “cooler” appearance and seems to be the preference for commercial environments because its color temperature is closer to a fluorescent light bulb.
- Q) How does the LR6 output compare to an incandescent?
- A) The LR6 has a comparable delivered lumen output to a 65-watt BR30, 50-watt PAR30, or a 100-watt
A-line incandescent light bulb when installed in typical 6in recessed downlights.
- Q) How does the LR6 output compare to fluorescent?
- A) The LR6 has a comparable delivered lumen output to an 18-watt or 26-watt compact fluorescent lamp depending on the type of recessed downlight utilized.
- Q) What is the CRI (color rendering index) of the LR6?
- A) The LR6 has a CRI of 90, which is considered excellent.
- Q) What is the efficiency of the LR6?
- A) The optical system is designed to deliver light with minimal optical losses. However, efficiency is somewhat difficult to measure since there are no lamps, per se, and the LEDs are permanently integrated within the optical system. A better measure of the LR6's performance is efficacy.
- Q) What is the efficacy of the LR6?
- A) Both the LR6 (2700K) and the LR6C (3500K) have a nominal delivered light output of 650 lumens and input of 10.5 watts for a delivered efficacy of 62 lumens per watt.
- Q) Does the LR6 meet California's Title 24 standard for efficacy?
- A) Yes, it exceeds California's Title 24 for high efficacy luminaires. Please note, for new construction in California, please utilize the GU24 base instead of the screw-in Edison base.
- Q) What are the differences between the LR6 and the LR6-GU24?
- A) The LR6-GU24 has been designed specifically for new construction in California and other areas where high efficacy line voltage sockets are required. Some jurisdictions prefer the GU24 socket because it prevents users from replacing the LR6 with low efficacy incandescent light bulbs.
- Q) How do I know if I can use the LR6 in my home or office?
- A) The LR6 is a recessed downlight module for new construction and retrofit that installs easily in most standard six inch recessed IC or non-IC housings. Please refer to our Can Compatibility document (PDF) for an up-to-date compatibility matrix.
- Q) Is the LR6 difficult to install?
- A) No, the LR6 installs into any existing can simply and easily. Please refer to our Installation Instructions for detailed documentation.
- Q) What is your beam angle?
- A) The LR6 was designed to deliver an optimal distribution of light that balances the amount of light delivered to the horizontal surfaces and vertical surfaces. The distribution is more sophisticated than what may be defined by a simple beam angle. It is a general illuminator that delivers an optimal amount of light when utilized with typical recessed downlight spacing.
- Q) Is an IC or non-IC housing/can recommended for use with the LR6?
- A) The LR6 works with both the IC and non-IC housings. The LR6 produces substantially less heat than the lamps utilized in standard recessed housings. (IC = insulation contact; that is, an IC recessed housing can come in contact with ceiling insulation)
- Q) What is the minimum operating temperature for the LR6?
- A) Currently, we state the minimum operating temperature for the LR6 as zero degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit).
- Q) What is the maximum operating temperature for the LR6?
- A) We have tested the LR6 within both IC and non-IC housings/cans in very demanding environments simulating a hot attic environment (up to 60 degrees Celsius, 140 degrees Fahrenheit). Because of our integrated thermal management features, even under these extremes, the maximum junction temperature of the LR6 LEDs is less than the manufacturer specified maximums.
- Q) Does the LR6 have a damp or wet rating?
- A) The LR6 is rated for damp locations.
- Q) Does the LR6 contain any lead?
- A) CREE products are lead-free and RoHS compliant (Restriction of Hazardous Substances).
- Q) What type of aluminum is the LR6 housing made from?
- A) The LR6 is constructed from 100% recycled aluminum.

Customer Comment about our 6-Inch LED Retrofit Modules for Recessed Lights, 650 Lumens, 10.5W
"Pegasus not only has one of the better web-sites, they have a customer service department to match! We just remodeled our kitchen and added the LED retrofit down lighting (3500K). We put in new 6” cans but still used these bulbs. This lighting makes all the difference. Not only was I able to save on electricity, I reduced the amount of heat generated by my old bulbs-what a difference! Glad I found a company like Pegasus. Dian from Florida!" – Dian F.
"I just wanted to let you know that I have changed out my original kitchen can lights with LR6 LED lights that I purchased from your company. I really love the light that they give off and am pleased that I made the change. I've not had them in long enough to see the impact to my electric bill, but I'm sure I will, especially during the hot summer months here in AZ." – Karen C.
"We are doing a complete renovation as well as an addition. I stumbled over your site when looking for recessed LED lighting for the children's hallways and stairwells. Looking at your prices, I will probably be ordering most of the remaining lights through your company." – Eric G.
