This four-inch line voltage (120 volts) recessed lighting shower trim with an albalite glass lens has a glass diffuser and a special gasket to prevent moisture from passing into the fixture.

Diffusion, yes; smooth, no

It does a good job of diffusion, some larger CFLs seem to evenly illuminate the entire trim with no hot spot. The glass is not smooth; there is a grid pattern of small round detents or dimples in it. I haven't found this objectionable, just unexpected.
